Environmental Defense is noted for its rigorous scientific approach and has more Ph.D. scientists and economists on staff than any other similar organization. Through our program areas, we bring together experts in science, law and economics to tackle complex environmental issues and develop sound solutions. We concentrate on the most urgent issues where our expertise can produce the greatest impact.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

A place in cyberspace for Biology teaching and learning.Access Excellence, launched in 1993, is a national educational program that provides high school biology and life science teachers access to their colleagues, scientists, and critical sources of new scientific information via the World Wide Web. The program was originally developed and launched by Genentech Inc., a leading biotechnology company that discovers, develops, manufactures and markets human pharmaceuticals for significant unmet medical needs.

The mission of the NOAA Library and Information Services (LISD) is to ensure the delivery of scientific, technical, and legislative information to users. The library's users include NOAA staff, general public, academia, industry, and other government agencies. The principal resource for accomplishing this mission is a research collection with a comprehensive coverage of: hydrographic surveying (from 1820) oceanography, meteorology, and hydrology (from 1870) living marine resources (from 1970 with selected coverage from 1870), and meteorological satellite applications (from 1960).

population and community ecology

The society of Population Ecology was founded in 1961 for the purpose of promoting and fostering the study of population ecology. Now the activities of both the society and its publication cover broader aspects of population ecology and population biology, in both basic and applied fields. Membership is open to personsinterested in population ecology and related fields of the biological sciences.

Green Construction - Case Studies

The information contained in this document comes from a literature search of pollution prevention information for machine shops, a roundtable meeting that was held on July 29, 1999 by the Washington State Department of Ecology's Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction (WADOE) program and a document titled "Metal Machining Sector - Pollution Prevention Assessment and Guidance" (publication #99-412) by the WADOE. The Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center (PPRC) developed this sector-specific "living document" to keep industry representatives and technical assistance providers apprised of pollution prevention technologies and regulatory issues. This approach was chosen because state and federal laws pertaining to this industry, expert contacts, and pollution prevention technologies frequently change. The resulting product, this online "living document", includes information about current regulatory issues, P2 technologies, innovative research activities, case studies and vendors of P2 equipment.
